91 points from Wine Enthusiast: “This Cab-based Bordeaux blend has sizable amounts of Merlot and Cab Franc. It’s quite a distinguished wine, classic in the modern Napa sense of softness and ripeness to the point of decadent drinkability. There’s a sweet olive-tapenade edge to the blackberry, cassis and cherry flavors. The finish, believe it or not, suggests blueberry pie, fresh from the oven.” (12/31/2007)

91 points from Wine & Spirits Magazine: “This wine’s cool edges bring a North Coast conifer forest to mind. Ripe cherry flavors and espresso coffee scents give it sweetness, though the wine is balanced and understated. For duck roasted with cherries.” (12/07)

90 points from Robert Parker: “A beautiful wine from this Napa winery, The Oracle is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec. Deep ruby/purple, with spicy aromatics intertwined with some lush blackberry and cassis fruit, opulent on the palate, with full body, silky tannins, and low acidity, this is a beauty that should drink handsomely for at least a decade.” (Dec. 2007)

The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been our flagship wine for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and ageing potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and elevates flavor complexity. “www.Chappellet.com”

Tasting Notes:
Cinnamon and cocoa scents mingle with the aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and toasty oak. Robust flavors of espresso and red and black fruits layer deep into the core of this delicious wine. Elegant tannins round into the firm backbone of the wine, while an impression of bittersweet chocolate hangs gently on the aftertaste.

Vineyard Notes:
A dry, warm spring in 2007 resulted in early budding, bloom, and set up on Pritchard Hill. The summer growing season was decidedly on the mild-to-cool side with few heat spikes. There was an initial flurry of harvest activity around Labor Day, but then temperatures cooled, which allowed picking to proceed at an even pace.

Production Notes:
Cabernet Sauvignon 76% Malbec 18% Petit Verdot 4% Merlot 1% Cabernet Franc 1%

“The 2005 Faust delivers a Cabernet with precision and style – all of the aromatics, complexity and finesse that are the best of this vintage without giving up any power. A core of sweet, juicy black fruit, classic black cherry and blackberry flavors pick right up right on the palate where the aromas leave off.”

critical acclaim:
“Medium garnet hue. Inviting scents of black cherry, mocha and raspberry with hints of leather and menthol. Vibrant acidity and juicy flavors of raspberry and cassis bolstered by robust tannins. Layered, lingering finish of espresso, mint and wild cherry.”

winemaker’s notes:
Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Our 2008 Ménage à Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.

92 points Wine & Spirits: “This firm, luscious Sauvignon is impressively concentrated for the 2008 vintage. It’s saturated with gooseberry and lemongrass flavors, and plenty of acidity. Give it several years in bottle to mellow, or serve it now with freshly shucked oysters.” (02/09) 91 points Wine Spectator: “Light and tart, with a zip to the acidity that carries the vivid, celery-tinged gooseberry and lime flavors, lingering impressively on the sharply focused finish. Drink now.” (04/09)

90 points Stephen Tanzer: Very pale straw-yellow. Sexy, pure aromas of soft citrus fruits, grapefruit and lemon oil, accented by peppery herbs. Dense, sweet and supple, with lovely lift and spicy high notes to the lemon, grapefruit and pineapple flavors. A broad, fruit-driven style of sauvignon with a light touch-and distinctly polite for this bottling, showing neither the outstanding intensity and grip of the best recent vintages nor the pronounced herbaceous character of the more difficult years. But this is harmonious from the outset.” (Sept/Oct ‘09)

Scented and summery, the 2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc has deliciously vibrant aromatics that infuse the tropical fragrance of fresh passionfruit and juicy pineapples with garden-fresh basil and the spiciness of crushed tomato leaves. The palate is long and succulent, combining exotic fruits with ripe, red capsicum and a twist of green olive… beautifully complemented by crisp natural acidity and a hint of lime zest.

WINEMAKER NOTES
It has reappeared…
Three distinctive varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a wine characterized by its incandescence. Deeply luscious and succulent blackberries ignite this vintage of our rich ruby apparition. Aromas of anise and sweet fig are embraced by touches of black pepper. From the shadowed dark depths, subtle notes of cloves and vanilla emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine.

Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer.
Though this wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three unique varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes again.

Charles Smith is both the owner and winemaker at K Vintners. Originally from Northern California, Charles spent some time living in Scandinavia, but has been involved with wine both professionally and personally his entire life.

K Vintners currently produces from three different viticultural areas in Washington State: Red Mountain, Columbia Valley, and Walla Walla Valley, regions which have all proven to grow great Syrah. The winery produces small lots of single vineyard Syrah, with total production levels at only a couple of thousand cases per year.

On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied with gobs of ripe fruit, succulent flavors, soft tannins, and excellent balance. This lengthy effort over-delivers big-time and is a superb value.
